Developing New Energy and Promoting a Harmonious Society

At present, about 90% of the total energy produced and used each year comes from fossil fuels. The mass exploration and utilization of these non-renewable sources is rapidly consuming the precious resources accumulated on our planet during the past millions of years. At the same time, it is also bringing about many severe environmental problems, such as global climate change and deterioration of biological systems.

Faced with this critical situation the Chinese government, like the governments of other countries, highly values the research and utilization of new sources of energy, giving top priority to the development of wind energy, solar energy and biomass energy in its “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”. The Chinese “New Energy Law” implemented on January 1, 2006, provides strong policy support for the development of the domestic new energy industry.

Indeed, renewables have excellent development prospects in China. It is estimated that by 2015 the overall contribution of renewable energy sources of electric power, heated water and gas will reach the equivalent of 43 million tons of coal, with an average annual growth rate of 17.32%. By this time, renewable sources will account for about 2% of Chinese commercial energy consumption, directly driving the rapid development of related industries and bringing about positive environmental results.

Private enterprises will be the major driver of technological innovation in the new energy industry. The entry of private enterprises into the new energy industry has clearly increased the efficiency of resource utilization and social benefits, and stimulated the creation of new business models. However, private enterprises also face various difficulties and issues in terms of investment, construction and operation in the new energy industry. It is with these facts in mind that Farsighted Group, in collaboration with more than 100 new energy enterprises in the fields of small hydro power, wind power, solar energy heating, solar photovoltaics, biomass energy, energy conservation and equipment manufacturing, established China New Energy Chamber of Commerce on January 13, 2006.

The aims of CNECC include establishing a platform for commercial communication and international cooperation; building bridges between private enterprises and government agencies; helping private enterprises obtain the latest market and technology information; negotiating with the government on behalf of our members for laws and regulations that will benefit the development of the new energy industry; promoting a steady flow of talent, technology and information between enterprises; strengthening contact and communication between enterprises; using the collective force of the industry to promote the development of a weakened industry chain; establishing and implementing effective and appropriate industrial standards and rules; perfecting the industry self-discipline mechanism, and facilitating the healthy and sustainable development of the overall new energy industry.

Since its foundation, China New Energy Chamber of Commerce has not only worked closely together with the All-China Industry of Federation and Commerce (ACFIC), but has also strengthened communication and cooperation with related domestic and foreign organizations. CNECC has enjoyed considerable success in expanding its membership, establishing a CDM ability center, building a platform for information exchange, and developing the various institutional functions of the chamber. In the future, our work will actively centre on the “China International New Energy Summit Forum, China New Energy Industry Investment Foundation, and China New Energy Industry Base” as the cornerstones of a healthy and sustainable development in the new energy industry.

The Chamber’s new website will on one hand promote and serve the chamber and its members, and on the other hand deliver the latest development information about the domestic and foreign new energy industries, analyze new energy policies, promote the exchange and communication of ideas, technology and business opportunities between new energy enterprises, and assist our members in improving their image and competitiveness. We warmly welcome enterprises and figures involved in the new energy industry to join China New Energy Chamber of Commerce. Help us grasp new opportunities and make positive progress, develop the new energy industry, improve the current energy structure, and promote the overall construction of a harmonious society.
